Public Service Exchange

About the Public Service Exchange

The CIPA Public Service Exchange is a unique service-learning partnership with nonprofit and government agencies, the majority of which are located in the Ithaca/Tompkins County area. These agencies provide real world projects for Fellows to work on. In the process, Fellows gain practical work experience while completing their MPA coursework.

Participation in the Public Service Exchange may fulfill the practical experience requirement of the MPA. In addition, Fellows may choose to expand their Exchange project in the spring for use in their capstone MPA professional writing project.

Public Service Exchange Course for CIPA Fellows

CIPA Fellows who wish to participate in the Public Service Exchange must register for HE 6020—Nonprofit & Government Organizations. This preparatory seminar course includes direct field experience, where Fellows address a problem, issue, or opportunity for a client using a consultative approach. Fellows operate much as if they were employees of a traditional public-sector consulting firm.
