In September of 2008 Ambassador Abdullah Hussain Haroon became the Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations, New York. The former speaker of the Sindh Assembly, he boasts a rich and varied career, which includes posts in both the public and private sectors.
Ambassador Haroon began his early career in public service as election coordinator for the Pakistan Muslim League in 1970. Later, he served as councilor for the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation KMC from 1979-1985, trustee of the Karachi Port Trust from 1980-1982, member of the Sindh Provincial Assembly from 1985-1988, speaker of the Provincial Assembly of Sindh from 1985-1986 and leader of opposition in the Sindh Assembly from 1986 to 1988.
Ambassador Haroon also served as a consultant to the Pakistan Herald Publication from 1988-1989, a delegate to the UN General Assembly and a member of the Board of Governors at the Institute of Business Administration Karachi from 1996-1999. From 1997 to 1999 he was director of the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation Board, and from 1999 to 2004 served as the President of the Pakistan-China Business Forum.
