About CIPA

CIPA Student Body Organizations

CIPA fellows develop practical skills by organizing, managing, or otherwise participating in a variety of professional development activities. There are two student organizations: The Cornell Public Affairs Society and Women in Public Policy.

Cornell Public Affairs Society

The Cornell Public Affairs Society (CPAS) is the student professional organization of the Cornell Institute for Public Affairs. Attending and participating in national public policy conferences, career development seminars, and alumni outreach events are an integral part of student activity.  CPAS co-sponsors several policy seminars and roundtable discussions on campus each year.

CPAS also organizes a number of social events for CIPA fellows including orientation receptions, holiday celebrations, the annual International Party, picnics, and a multitude of other events.  The Society's activities are as diverse as the fellows themselves.  As a student-run organization, CPAS affords every fellow the opportunity to initiate debate, as well as personally affect the direction and focus of the organization.  Their website can be accessed by clicking here.

CPAS officers are elected each November, take office in January, and serve for one calendar year.

Women in Public Policy

Women in Public Policy (WIPP) was founded in 1994. The group's purpose is to facilitate the professional integration of women into public policy roles. To this end, WIPP organizes discussions and debates on gender and policy issues regarding women in the public arena, and generates public awareness about economic, social, political and historical issues in relation to gender and power in policy. The organization promotes principles of equality, justice and integrity in the public and private arena and provides a support system and networking opportunities for its members. WIPP sends delegates to conferences, invites women leaders to speak at Cornell, co-hosts various events on campus that deal with women and equality, holds panel discussions on current issues on gender and makes information available to its members of gender policy related events at Cornell and beyond.
